We are a small, family-run Uyghur restaurant at 235 Hoe Street. The room is one long stretch of about thirty covers, with ikat runners on the tables, woven hangings on the walls and a window onto the street. It fills up with local families, groups of friends and people who travel across London for a bowl of laghman.
Uyghur home cooking in Walthamstow: laghman pulled by hand, lamb skewers, samsa and big sharing platters, served the way our families serve them, with tea in small glasses and more food than you expect.
Uyghur food comes from Central Asia, and it is built on wheat, lamb and fire. We pull our laghman noodles by hand, bake samsa with lamb and onion, steam manta dumplings and serve them with a steel pot of chilli oil. The platters are big on purpose: one bowl of chicken, potato and noodles can feed a table.
We keep drinks simple. Tea comes in small glass tumblers and is topped up through the meal, and traditional ayran, a cold salted yoghurt drink, is the classic partner to lamb and hand-pulled noodles. If you would rather eat at home, you can order collection or delivery through our website or the Etles Walthamstow app.

Nothing here is fussy. Plain bowls, generous portions, tea poured into small glass tumblers. If you have never eaten Uyghur food before, ask us. We are proud of it and happy to explain.

Diners keep saying the portions are enormous: sharing platters that could feed four, and bowls of noodles that count as a full meal on their own.
